What it is
Supernatural: Only God
According to Oxford, this word as an adjective means:
adjective: supernatural
(of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature, “a supernatural being”
unnaturally or extraordinarily great, "a woman of supernatural beauty"
According to the experts, similar words include inexplicable, unaccountable, unbelievable, non-rational, unnatural, unearthly…and to that, I say “Yes - exactly!!”. If you are reading this right now and you aren’t sure that there is a God (or perhaps are even sure that there isn’t one) I know I am at risk of alienating you right off the bat, but hand on heart, I would not bother to write this unless I knew for sure. Unless I knew for sure that this God of mine loves you and wants you to experience an otherwise inexplicable life with him. To those who have already experienced God and are on a walk with him, I’d love to echo Pastor Tim at The Father’s House and remind you that “as believers in Jesus…that a supernatural life should be normal life for you. It should be a part of your natural existence.” More on this as we go, but this sermon series is what inspired Supernatural Sobriety (it’s amazing, please check it out).
Sobriety
Ugh, what a bummer, amiright? Who wants to walk around being sober ? Sure, sobriety is characterized most commonly as abstinence, restraint, non-indulgence, or at least some kind of moderation. Well, even if you don’t like to nerd out on words like I do, I’d love for you to see that sober means much more than you think it does, that it actually means freedom. What if sobriety meant…
Thoughtful: being more intentional in our actions
Earnest: living in a state of sincere and intense conviction
Serious: realizing our importance and significance in a whole-hearted way
Practical: moving past theories and actually doing something suitable, and for a particular purpose
Dignified: recognition of our own worthiness and a sense of pride in who we are
Steady: firmly supported, balanced…safe
Clear: leaving no doubt; visible, obvious and unambiguous; free of impairment and guilt
